Fatal Car Accidents in Louisiana

undefinedEach year, nearly 1000 people lose their lives as a result of automobile accidents in the state of Louisiana. In most instances, innocent victims die due to the negligent and reckless actions of other motorists.

Experts who study car accidents across the state concluded that various driver errors continue to contribute to the high number of accidents that take place in our state. Leading factors in motor vehicle accidents across our state include:

  • Distracted driving: Drivers who are distracted continue to be one of the most common factors cited in automobile accidents across the state. Some of the most common distractions include cell phone use, eating and drinking, changing the radio, and staring at objects outside of the vehicle.
  • Impaired driving: When drivers are under the influence of intoxicants, such as alcohol or drugs, they are more likely to lose control of their vehicles. These drivers may experience problems distinguishing the colors of signs and traffic lights, and they may not be able to stay inside their lane of travel.
  • Speeding: Traveling higher than the posted speed limit can result in drivers losing control of their vehicles and crashing into others.

When victims lose their lives as a result of these and other acts of negligence, families are able to take legal action. In most cases, families file wrongful death claims against those who are responsible, so they can get the financial resources they need for funeral arrangements and a variety of other expenses.
